For Film Lovers

Today I picked up some prints for a client from my master printer ( who I used to intern with) , and I was immediately struck by how beautiful the prints are. I made a gallery of a few of the prints he has made me over the years, there will be more added to this gallery over the next weeks. I named the prints by the film type and any special technique used, such as diffusion, sepia or blue toning, etc... That way you can look at the print and know what was done to it. Of course there is a lot more to making an Art Print such as these, but its a start to your building up your knowledge base in silver gelatin prints, and the beauty of film.

Here is a diffused print in black and white, I just love the creamy dreamy feel to it:

And here it is in sepia tone with sloppy borders. They are both so tastey, I don't know which I prefer.

Click on the title to see the gallery for Film Lovers. Feel free to ask any questions about these, I'll gladly answer them.

Happy Birthday Sophia!

Its a one year mark for the Palomino Sophia. A Quarter horse that was born right here one year ago. She's as sweet as could be, even if she wasn't quite sure about the camera.

Here Sophia looks a bit tired, it was getting late when we took these pics , about 7:30pm, but I love this pic.

She's actually quite tall for a one year old.

At first she wasn't sure about the camera, and she did her best to put on an angry face. Growing up with horses I can tell a really angry horse, like her mother protecting her baby ( foal ) from strangers. And when a filly is mimicking her Mother.

04.22.08 ~ Shannon + Julien

Meet Julien and Shannon. Shannon is a Los Angeleno while Julien is a Frenchman, working here he met Shannon and the rest is history. Julien's relatives flew in from the Rhone region of France for the celebration. Already here and in the cellar were bottles of Gigondas, also from the Rhone region of France and were a tribute to his family.

Russell of Stellar Films
was my second photographer/ lighting assistant on this shoot. He shot color and black and white film, so we'll have to wait a couple of weeks before seeing the pictures. I'm excited to see the film shots in comparison to my digital shots.

04.17.08 ~ Liliana + Mike

It was nice to finally meet Liliana + Mike in person this past Thursday for our engagement session. In town from Michigan, amidst the Airline debacle this past week, couldn't keep our Liliana and Mike away. We played in Downtown Los Angeles, and even got a sneak peak at Cicada, the elegant restaurant that will serve as our reception location later this Summer.

To see more of their engagement session click on the title above.

Dad's 82nd Birthday!!

Meet Joe, my father the rocket scientist. At 82 years young, he's enjoying his side of paradise, and he certainly deserves it. From defending Freedom in WW2 to designing defense aircraft, his production record is simply stellar. Whenever his age comes up, people quizzically look at me, and start to turn over how they are going to ask me about my age. Yes, I'm the youngest (by far) one in the family.

04.06.08 ~ Eve-Marie + Donovan

When Eve-Marie called me to shoot her wedding, I heard was one of the loveliest voices on the other end, but was without a face to put with the voice. This weekend Eve-Marie and Donovan ( two cool names ~ his and hers. When your born with a name like Arlene, thats one of those things you notice about others. ) were down in Los Angeles this weekend from San Jose to have their engagement session. From various locations we got really cool backgrounds, from Dungeons and Dragons Mid-Evil Church to serene stream in nature.

A Soolip Wedding Event

The highly anticipated upscale bridal show of the year is coming and Arlene Catherine Photography has been invited to be a vendor. One of four photographer vendors allowed into the show, I feel quite honored to be in stellar company. Vibiana's downtown Los Angeles is the venue for the event this year. Carolina Herrera will be presenting the runway show of her gorgeous bridal gowns. From Harry Winston jewelers to Lexus automobiles, the Sponsors for this event offer one thing in common, quality. I hope to see you there.

03.19.08 ~ Carmen and Kyle's Engagement Session

3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica served as a wonderful backdrop for us yesterday and we went about getting awesome pictures. After lunch at the Broadway Deli we headed over to Pinkberry's unopened storefront and had jumping good time goofing off. Further along our excursion path led us to Urban Outfitters, a parking garage where we met an ever so friendly peace officer. Onwards we met up with a amiable taxi driver who lent us his car for a few cool shots. Then back to the Promenade proper where we found the Armani Exchange an inviting backdrop as was a movie poster. A preview is below and even more of the session is found by clicking the title.
