August 12 - 16th, 2008 ~ Bobbie Topfer's 60th Birthday Event ~ Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, and Hangar 8, Santa Monica
With an unlimited budget, it was truely a STELLAR event. Watching the various crews, semi- tracker trailers deliver and unload lights, a/c units, three large movie screens, three stages, hundreds of feet of silk fabrics, cabanas, carpets, couches, pillows, to the perfect ice sculpters and flowers, it was a birthday bash I'll never forget.
Friday night was the opening of the bash at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, where we started on the Penthouse for cocktail hour. Kenny G. performed for us with various Saxophones. One of the sweetest celebs I've ever met. Dinner was upstairs on the roof, which was completely transformed with six cabanas, carpet, furniture and stage for the lovely Etta James. 'At Last' live hits you with waves of emotion, Etta still has the energy and passion.
Mortie Topfer threw Bobbie, his wife, this special 60th birthday party in return for her throwing his fantastic 70th birthday party at the Wynn in Las Vegas three years ago. Mortie Topfer was a founding partner of Dell computers.
The incredible Kenny G. on Saxophone entertained us during Cocktail hour!

A zebra escorted us upstairs to the roof for dinner.

'At Last' belted out by Etta James herself, there wasn't a dry eye under the stars. With this inspiring song, Etta's concert began. Old songs, new songs, and some story telling mixed in between had us all riveted. Passion and energy emoted with mega watts. I just heard that song again last night at Simone and Jim's wedding. Live or memorex, Etta's performance delivers.

Etta told us some stories.
