San Diego Magazine Shoot with John Mireles

In beautiful downtown San Diego yesterday, I assisted the very talented John Mireles for a Swimsuit editorial spread and the Cover of the July issue of San Diego Magazine. We set up at four different locations yesteray , all rooftops. From FIT Athletic Club pool to the Icon across the street, down to Smart Corner building, and back to home base - The Ivy. The Ivy was one of the most impressive boutique hotels I've been to yet. Reminded me of The Standard in downtown L.A.

Here are a few of my behind the scenes pictures taken with my point and shoot, a Canon G7. I love this little camera with full manual capabilities, it allows me to grab shots without distortion, CMOS sensor for capture of both shadows and highlights, the closest focusing macro lens available. I also have the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro lens that I use on the full frame 5 D, for those closeup shots of rings, and other small objects.

My fav, models just relaxed and waiting ~

John and model hard at work, FIT Athletic pool deck ~

Model working the angles, attitude and clothes. To sell them you have to make them look good. Location is the rooftop of the Icon

From the Icon rooftop, we could see the Padres stadium , and Coronado Island in the distance.

For Film Lovers

Today I picked up some prints for a client from my master printer ( who I used to intern with) , and I was immediately struck by how beautiful the prints are. I made a gallery of a few of the prints he has made me over the years, there will be more added to this gallery over the next weeks. I named the prints by the film type and any special technique used, such as diffusion, sepia or blue toning, etc... That way you can look at the print and know what was done to it. Of course there is a lot more to making an Art Print such as these, but its a start to your building up your knowledge base in silver gelatin prints, and the beauty of film.

Here is a diffused print in black and white, I just love the creamy dreamy feel to it:

And here it is in sepia tone with sloppy borders. They are both so tastey, I don't know which I prefer.

Click on the title to see the gallery for Film Lovers. Feel free to ask any questions about these, I'll gladly answer them.

Ciao ~

Happy Birthday Sophia!

Its a one year mark for the Palomino Sophia. A Quarter horse that was born right here one year ago. She's as sweet as could be, even if she wasn't quite sure about the camera.

Sophia's eyes hang down at the end of the day. It was getting late when we took these pictures, about 7:30 pm, but I love this pic.

She's actually quite tall for a one year old.

At first she wasn't sure about the camera, and she did her best to put on an angry face. Sophia took one look at my big black camera and shook her head. Then I played peek a boo with her from behind the camera and she relaxed.
